Brite Futures (Natalie Portman's Shaved Head) Breaking UpBrite Futures (formerly Natalie Portman's Shaved Head) had bad news for fans this week. The group announced via Facebook that they have decided to disband. The group will play a farewell show for hometown fans on June 16th at The Vera Project in Seattle. Here is the message the band had for fans on Facebook:

It is with many bittersweet feelings that we announce that as of next month Brite Futures will cease to be an active band, and we will no longer be creating or playing music together. After almost seven years as a band (more than a quarter of our lives) we've unanimously reached the decision that it's time to move on to other adventures-the irony of which, for a band with our name, is not lost on us. This separation is not due to a falling out or any ill feelings between us personally, but with the band's momentum dying down and other aspirations beckoning, we've begun to look toward the next stage in our lives. And that's exciting at the same time as it's sad to leave behind a pursuit that saw us grow up together, from awkward high school spazzes singing about our first beards to more confident young adults.

For a project that started on a whim as an "acapella electronic band" at a high school lunch table that was never meant to leave our parents' basements or a few friends' iPods, we've experienced more in our time together than we could have ever dreamt. Of the band posters lining our bedroom walls that we gazed at daily while growing up, we've had the privilege of touring or performing alongside six of those pictured (Lily Allen, Weezer, CSS, The Go-Team, The Ting Tings, and The Faint). We've also been signed to a major record label, had music and a video in a major motion picture, and played shows across the country and internationally. Our high-school-sophomore-selves probably wouldn't believe it if we told them now. Just the fact that people all around the world have listened to the music we created almost entirely out of a small bedroom in Seattle is mind-blowing, and we'll be forever grateful. I think we can be proud too.

There are countless moments this band has afforded us that we'll remember fondly for the rest of our lives: the "talking testicles" skit from our first show at 826 Seattle, placing second in the Sound Off! battle of the bands, sleeping on people's floors across the country on our first tour ever (with CSS!), late nights and early mornings spent making music videos with That Go and team, Shaun slicing his head open on a stage light and us staying up all night with him in a hospital in Brooklyn, Lily Allen dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi attacking us onstage with a plastic lightsaber as we performed on the last night of tour in Toronto, living out of a hotel in Hollywood while we recorded with John King, traveling to London for the first time for four shows and one amazing four-hour dinner, opening for one of our favorite bands ever (Weezer) while Luke was near death with swine flu, sipping champagne out of tiny plastic cups after signing with WB records, receiving a package containing the Dark Past masters emblazoned with the Abbey Road Studios logo, playing in Key Arena (an arena!?) for the Bumbershoot festival, and so, so many more.

But our most cherished memories come from being around the people we grew to love, even if it was only for one night. That means everyone we'd see singing and dancing like crazy at our shows whether in a tiny basement or large theater, everyone who dressed in bright colors or wore a side ponytail, every sweaty kid who talked to us at the merch booth after the show, everyone from every corner of the globe who we got to know online, and all the extremely talented and generous people who became part of the NPSH/BF team, helping us make some of our wildest dreams a reality. It really wouldn't mean much without you guys.

So to you-everyone who's taken time to listen to our music, watch our videos, write about us, perform with us, or work with us-thank you for letting us be a part of your lives in some small way. It's been such an amazing privilege and a pleasure, and it means so much to us. We love you forever.

Fug or Fab: Natalie Portman

I am sure that ribbon halter is hella expensive, but it photographs like it’s Dior for Target — you know, kind of cheap-shiny, and won’t lie straight. I also might wish the dress were just cocktail-length, or just long, as opposed to trying to have both. I don’t know. I’m not mad at it? Apparently it echoes my feelings about Portman herself: a whole lot of, “Eh, sure, whatever.” My cup does not run over with joy nor loathing. Instead, my cup sits placidly, wondering metaphorical thoughts about its level of fullness.

Well Played: Natalie Portman At The NYC Ballet’s Spring Gala

Natalie Portman and ballerina ballerino danseur hubby Benjamin Millepied stepped out to the New York City Ballet’s Spring Gala last night looking spectacularly gorgeous, thereby further reinforcing my long-enduring belief that Natalie is one of the most ethereal and beautiful creatures on this planet (and is, in fact, quite possibly not of this earth at all). Her tiered Dior gown isn’t something I would normally go for, but it looks stunning on her, and my God, that makeup! That face! Perfection. She gets me every time.

Natalie Portman is one bodacious Black Swan! Nearly one year after the birth of her son Aleph, the Oscar-winning star proudly showed off her svelte post-baby body at the New York City Ballet's Spring Gala in NYC Thursday. On the David H. Koch Theater's red carpet, the 30-year-old actress' halter-style tiered Dior dress put her slim arms and toned shoulders on full display. She accessorized with Dior shoes, jewels and a Richard Mille watch.

At her side? Aleph's handsome dad and Portman's dancer/choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied, who fell in love with Portman while making Black Swan back in 2010. The couple's last red carpet appearance was at the Academy Awards in February, where they quietly debuted their platinum wedding bands, surprising fans who didn't know that the duo had tied the knot. (Portman's rep confirmed to Us Weekly in December 2010 that the on-set loves were engaged.)

"I designed the rings worn by Benjamin Millepied and Natalie Portman," jeweler Jamie Wolf told Us in February. "They were made with recycled platinum and conflict free diamonds." The low-key couple have yet to speak out on their top-secret nuptials.

What do Golda Meir, Natalie Portman and Aviva Shalit have in common?

Posted in : Gossips

(added 9 days ago)

What do Golda Meir, Natalie Portman and Aviva Shalit have in common? They're all on JTA's Top Jewish Moms list for 2012:

What do Golda Meir, Natalie Portman and Aviva Shalit have in common?

Bella Abzug
The first Jewish woman elected to Congress, who had two daughters, once famously said, “This woman’s place is in the house: the House of Representatives." Abzug was a congressional star, but she also was a staunch Zionist, a pioneer in the synagogue and a one-time Jewish Theological Seminary student. What a role model; not to mention those hats.

Robert Edwards
He’s not Jewish or a woman, but the British scientist pioneered the process of in-vitro fertilization, which is used at a higher rate in Israel than in any other country. Arguably, Edwards has birthed tens of thousands of Jewish children. Just don’t ask him to name them.

Amalie Freud
Knowing what we know now about Sigmund Freud, the mother of the father of psychoanalysis must have been one crazy Jewish mother.

‘Mrs. Goldberg’ (as played by Gertrude Berg)
In her defining role as the irrepressible Mrs. Goldberg, Berg brought a lovable matriarch with a sing-song Brooklyn accent to radio, TV, film and Broadway. She paved the way for other Jewish domestic divas that followed, including Rhoda Morgenstern (played by Valerie Harper) and the Nanny (Fran Drescher), who proved that even a couple of WASP-y kids on Manhattan’s Upper East Side can use a Jewish mom.

Bessie Hillman
When Hillman (then Abramowitz) arrived in Chicago as a teenager in 1905 to escape an arranged marriage back in Russia, she wasn’t going to be just another button sewer earning 5 cents an hour. She started organizing and quickly became a union leader. While she eventually would have two daughters with husband and fellow activist Sidney Hillman, her establishment of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America in 1914 earned her the distinction of being the Mother of American Labor.

Golda Meir
OK, so she wasn’t Israel’s greatest prime minister. But this mother of two who led Israel for five of Israel’s most challenging years remains a favorite among American Jews. Why? One, because they don’t know much about her actual record, and two, because they just love the idea of a skirt-wearing, Milwaukee-raised Russian Jew making tea for global diplomats in her modest Israeli kitchen, plotting out the future of the Jewish state, and giving the Mossad the order to hunt down and kill the terrorists responsible for the 1972 Olympics massacre in Munich. We’re not sure what kind of mom she was to her kids, but she feels like a mother to the Jewish people.

Joan Nathan
Perhaps nothing is more central to being a Yiddishe mama than knowing how to make a good bowl of chicken soup - not to mention brisket, blintzes and borscht (just to name a few b’s). By this measure, Nathan is the tops.

Natalie Portman
This starlet, who seems to be on everyone’s list of favorite Jews, has a new baby, Aleph Portman-Millepied. Who wouldn’t want a talented, unabashedly Jewish, gorgeous, smart, Hollywood star for a mom? (Plus, her fictional children, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia of “Star Wars,” were key to defeating the Evil Empire.)

Aviva Shalit
After her Israeli soldier son Gilad was taken captive by Palestinian militants in a cross-border attack near Gaza in 2006, Aviva and Noam Shalit vowed to do everything in their power to bring him home. With strong parallels to the experiences of Ron Arad and Nachshon Wachsman - Israeli soldiers who never made it out of Arab captivity - there was plenty of reason for skepticism, especially as the years passed. But Aviva and Noam never flagged, mounting a relentless campaign for their son’s release. Last October, their persistence was rewarded when Gilad was returned home (albeit at a very heavy cost to Israel). Jewish mother to the rescue!

Ruth Westheimer
So you think your mother makes you uncomfortable? Try having Dr. Ruth as a mom. Still, you know it’s good advice. Nu, when are you going to get married, already?

Yocheved
She braved Egyptian decree for three months to save her son from certain death, then orchestrated it so he’d be raised in a royal household. And it all paid off: Her boy Moses went on to become the greatest Jewish leader of all time.

The Unsung Heroine
Every day and for thousands of years, Jewish mothers have been making sacrifices large and small to ensure the success of their children and their families, from managing households to raising kids with Jewish values and sensibilities, to giving us the security we need to go out into the world and make something of ourselves. They are not famous because they thought only of us, not themselves. We cannot name them because there are too many. But without them, the Jewish people would be lost. We salute you, Jewish mothers of the world!

Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Zooey Deschanel to Support One Episode of 'The Simpsons'

Not less than five renowned actresses will lend their voices in one upcoming episode of "The Simpsons". Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Zooey Deschanel, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sarah Silverman will join forces to support the animated comedy and reprise their roles as Bart's old flames.

"Black Swan" beauty Portman will return as the voice of Darcy (from season 18), "The Dark Knight Rises" star Hathaway will voice Jenny (from season 20), "New Girl" leading lady Deschanel will return as Mary Spuckler (from season 19), "Ringer" star Gellar will reprise Gina (from season 15), while comedienne Silverman will once again lend her voice for Nikki (from season 21).

These five characters will pop up briefly in early of the episode titled "Moonshine River", which is slated to air this fall. According to Entertainment Weekly, when "Bart learns that Mary has relocated to New York, he decides that she's the one that got away and embarks on a mission to track her down."

"Any resemblance between this episode and Breakfast at Tiffany's is completely coincidental," said Tim Long, who wrote the episode, about the storyline. On why a lot of Bart's former girlfriends appear at the same time, he reasoned, "It was a way to acknowledge that for a 10-year-old boy, Bart has gotten a lot of action."

"We thought it might be fun to borrow/pay homage to/steal an idea from High Fidelity and have him go on a romantic pilgrimage and visit the girls that he dated and try to figure out how the hell he screwed things up with each of them... I don't want to give away too much, but he realizes that maybe there's something wrong with him after all," Long explained.

Also listed as voice guests in the same episode are Steve Carell, Jennifer Tilly, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein.
